London Study Abroad Program
Global experience has become an increasingly vital part of a student’s education. During the Summer term after the second year of classes, Interior Architecture & Design students have the opportunity to experience design in London, England, while taking a History of Interiors course offered by the Department and organized through Florida State University International Programs.
Over four weeks, the students trace the intersections between design movements and the social, political, and economic forces that shaped them. We explore spaces embodying Baroque, Classical, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Modernist, and Post-Modernist movements. In addition to visiting London’s world-class museums, we marvel at Thornhill’s Painted Hall, climb Indigo Jones’ Tulip Stairs, tour the UNESCO World Heritage town of Bath, and take private architectural tours. To document their learning, students design postcards or create guides to London Interiors, representing the history and students’ experiences of these remarkable spaces.
