Greetings from the Department of Interior Architecture & Design!

I am Jill Pable, chair of the Department as of January. As this newsletter will show, much is afoot within the Department in this busy season of awards, student projects, and conferences. We said a thankful farewell to our beloved Lisa Waxman in December, who retired after many years of teaching and leadership in our department—she will be sorely missed and never replaced! However, no moss is growing under feet, as the saying goes. In a first for our department, we hosted an international research conference with the United Kingdom-based organization Architecture: Media, Politics, Society that brought researchers from 20 countries together, all examining the idea of design and human experience.

As this newsletter will describe, our students have also been busy this year securing awards from the Kravet Company and the Retail Design Institute and also showcasing their innovative furniture designs with the guidance of Dr. Marlo Ransdell. It is also particularly thrilling to see our student alumni and faculty also dedicating their leadership capabilities to entities outside of FSU, including design professional organizations such as the American Society of Interior Designers. These achievements, plus the other celebrations and successes listed in this newsletter provide a snapshot of a department in significant motion. It is an honor to work with such creative and driven faculty and students. Stay tuned for more to come!
