Jim Dawkins, Chair of the Florida State University Department of Interior Architecture & Design, received the Henry Sorenson Award at the biennial Design Communication Conference, held earlier this month at Montana State University in Bozeman. Dawkins’ observational sketch, “Via Dei Neri,” was chosen amongst 192 submissions by professional architectural illustrators and educators from around the world.
The DCA is an international professional society of graphics and design teachers from schools of architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, graphic design and product design. The theme of this year’s conference was “Between the Lines,” encouraging designers to “look at how design communication navigates or guides the processes, aspirations and challenges that exist between—and outside of—the unique lines of our current time.”
The award is named in honor of a founding members of the Design Communicators Association, Henry Sorenson, a Florida native and longtime faculty member at MSU who passed away in 2023.
