The FSU Interior Architecture and Design Department’s 2021 Student Award Winners were celebrated in a virtual ceremony at the end of the spring semester this year. These awards are held annually to congratulate students and honor their hard work, high standards and commitment to excellence. The students who are honored leave a legacy that is a tribute to the Department and to the interior design profession. The Student Awards also highlight scholarships awarded to students totaling $6000 made possible by department donations, the Advisory Council, faculty, faculty emeriti and others.
This year, there were numerous students recognized for prestigious external awards including the Metropolis 100, the Interior Design Educators Council Creative Scholarship Award, The Kravet Design of Distinction Competition, and the Directors Place Award with the National USITT Conference, among others.
“Our students work hard and push the needle to higher achievements in design each year,” said Jill Pable, chair of the Department of Interior Architecture and Design. “The FSU faculty and external organizations honor and celebrate exceptionally achieving students on their design work and their service to others. This presentation describes these students and their achievements in this truly extraordinary year. On behalf of the faculty, congratulations to these students on their success and thank you for how your work elevates us all!”
Internal departmental awards recognized students who provided excellent service to the IAD learning community by helping others, coordinating events, and inspiring excellence in those they work with. These faculty-chosen awards honor the significant effort that students contribute to the thriving department culture.
The IAD program consistently trains students at the undergraduate level to engage in inquiry that shapes their design solutions. The research awards showcase graduate students who have moved their work toward higher achievement in the Master of Fine Arts thesis. These faculty-selected awards recognize significant potential, drive and commitment by the student researcher.
Department scholarships are made possible by generous public member donors, alumni, and current emeriti faculty. Students who are awarded these honors are recognized by faculty as particularly meritorious. The Advisory Council Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to one undergraduate and one graduate student and is made possible by the members of the Department’s Advisory Council, which is comprised of industry professionals who provide intellectual, networking, and financial resources to the department. These awards include the Ashley Cowie Memorial Scholarship and the O’Brien Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships.
“I am very honored to be receiving the O’Brien Graduate Student Award,” said Laura Greenwood, who received O’Brien Graduate Scholar Award Winner. “To me, receiving this award shows that my hard work is recognized and the work I am doing with my degree is valued. This scholarship positively impacts my education and supports my research endeavors on improving the well-being of nursing home residents. I’d like to thank the O’Brien Family and donors for making this opportunity available to me!”
