Interior Design Program Earns 2 Top 10 2011 Design Intelligence Rankings

Published October 1, 2011

America’s Best Architecture & Design Schools, a publication by Design Intelligence, has been the definitive analysis of design programs across the country for more than a decade. The Interior Design Program at Florida State ranked in the top 10 nationally in 2 categories– #2 in Sustainable design practices and #4 in computer applications. Also notable, survey participants ranked Sustainable Design and Computer Technology #1 and #2 in compelling emerging issues to the profession. Supporting the recent rankings, FSU grads have constituted the highest number of those taking the NCIDQ examination than from any other institution in the country for the second consecutive year.

Over 220 organizations participated in the surveys of four professions — architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design, and interior design. Rankings were determined based on the hiring experience of surveyed firms assessing the preparedness of recent graduates in a range of vital skills. All participants were asked which collegiate interior design programs (undergraduate or graduate) were strongest in each skills category. According to Design Intelligence, research for the surveys was aided with information provided by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, the National Architectural Accreditation Board, the American Institute of Architecture Students, the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board, and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation.
