The College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance wishes to congratulate several faculty members who have been recognized by Florida State University as Faculty Emeriti.
Gail Rubini, Department of Art, has been with Florida State University since 1989. Before coming to FSU, she worked with Chicago Books in New York City as an artist, designer and printer. The books she produced were “…original art pieces that used the printing process experimentally,” allowing Gail to bring these techniques to her classrooms. She acted as Chair of the Art Department for the first six years at Florida State University, moving to the classroom in 1995.
George Blakely, Department of Art, has been with Florida State University since 1978. He has been showcased in over 300 exhibitions in almost every state in the country with experience in photography, mixed media sculpture and installations. He also is known for lectures on his art and research in many universities, museums galleries and conferences across the country.
Peter Munton, Interior Design, has been on the faculty in the interior design department since 1978. Peter hails from the United Kingdom where is worked as a set designer prior to coming to the U.S. to earn his master’s degree in design. He has been an inspiration to students and continues to remain in contact with many alumni. For years he has taught both the introductory course to freshman and the final studio to seniors. Lisa Waxman, Department of Interior Architecture and Design, stated, “Conquering the senior studio with Peter has become a rite of passage for our students. He has been instrumental in the growth and strength of our program.
Lynda Davis, School of Dance, has had extensive performing, choreographing, directing and teaching experience with Florida State University linking the educational and professional dance worlds together for over 35 years. This summer, she received the Florida Dance Association’s Lifetime Award and was recently honored with a named professorship, Nellie-Bond Dickenson Professorship.
