2005 IDEC South Regional Conference
Florida State University hosted design educators and graduate students at the 2005 IDEC South Regional Conference in Tallahassee, Florida, October 13, 14 & 15. The conference theme was “Graduate Education and the Creation of Tomorrow’s Educators”. This umbrella topic allowed us to discuss the state of graduate education in Interior Design, and, specifically, how we are fostering our future design educators. Peter Munton served as Conference Coordinator and Lisa Waxman was Paper Coordinator and Abstract Editor.
The conference began with a keynote address from Sue Markham (FSU Interior Design Alumna, 1973 and 2002). Paper, poster and Teaching Forum presentations were made by faculty and graduate students from 13 different institutions. In all, over 80 people registered for the conference (which included 25 graduate students.)
On Thursday night there was an early evening reception at the Museum of Florida History honoring Mary Jo Weale as Professor Emerita and viewing of the MFH exhibit, The Florida Home: Modern Living 1945-1965. On Friday there was a lunch on the 22nd floor of the state capitol and a tour of the 1902 historical restoration of the old capitol. That night, FSU Interior Design Department Chair Eric Wiedegreen hosted a dinner at his 1952 mid-century modern home.
The 2006 South Regional Conference will be hosted by University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
